It was such a cute movie – a police officer undercover as a Kindergarten teacher. This tough guy spent the first half of the movie being “run over” by a classroom full of 5 year olds. It was typical childhood antics and humor. During one scene, the children were saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
“I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of theUnited States of America. And to the Republic, for which it stands, One Nation, Under God, Invisible…” What? Invisible? That’s not right!
Or, is it?
We all know that the correct word is “indivisible.” I couldn’t help thinking, though (after laughing so hard that my stomach hurt!), that the God of our nation has become invisible. Not because He has left us, but because as a nation, we have left Him. We have chosen to hide our Godly heritage, proclaim freedom from God, or even deny that He exists. Our nation has chosen to “kick God out.” What could be more dangerous for a nation?
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” Psalm 33:12. Israel, God’s chosen nation, is seen throughout the Bible jumping into and out of the favor of the Lord. From the time God promised Abraham that he would be the father of all nations to the present day with the quarrel between the Palestinians and Israel constantly in the news, Israelis seen struggling with her ability to faithfully serve God. God has long blessed her, but when her adulterous ways pushed God out, they would be thrust into famine, slavery, war. When her heart turned back to God, His favor shined brightly on her. It is a pattern that runs throughout God’s Word and throughout history.
Americais a nation formed “under God.” The settlers came to theNew Worldin search of freedom. They no longer wanted the “mother country,England” to dictate to them the ways they would and would not worship. They knew what was good and right in the sight of the Lord and wanted their very lives to show it. How far our country has come! We have the freedom to do whatever we want – except worship God the way He requires.
Within the last 50 years, prayer has been thrown out of school, abortion is a woman’s right, safe-sex is accepted over abstinence, vulgarities are the norm on t-shirts, posters, store windows. And the things of Christ – manger scenes, crosses, the very name of Christ – are “inappropriate” in public, they should be kept private. In the last 50 years, the state of our nation has deteriorated rapidly. More and more young girls are becoming pregnant before marriage; studies show our nation to be “sicker” than any other nation in our national “class,” murder rates are up, graduation rates are down, the family unit is fragmented, terrorists are comfortable with attacking us on our own soil, etc, etc.
Open the eyes of our nation – shout it from every corner. We ARE One Nation Under God, We ARE Indivisible. Let God’s liberty reign over our nation. Don’t let Him remain “invisible” in our nation. Let His Glory Shine for all the world to see!
Well, no comment on the text but rather on the Intro..
As long as you do not consider “indivisible” referring to God, you should also not come to an “invisible God” but to an “invisible nation”, which in the pledge of allegiance seems rather funny for its purpose is kind of the opposite of proclaiming the nations invisibility. I like that funny aspect of American patriotism. Keep up the good work!
